about

Julie Johnston

With over 20 years’ experience working in media, marketing and video production, I love finding the beating heart of a story.

I choose to work with clients I genuinely believe in, which means when it’s needed, I help motivate you to overcome any barriers that are holding you back from sharing your voice. I show you where to look for PR opportunities, how to craft your story, and encourage you to remember your “why” to give you the confidence to shine.

Between 2020 and 2025, I was also editor of BDmag, North Queensland’s business magazine. It was an amazing opportunity to connect with so many talented people in our community, and I’m so proud of the stories we shared.

After hanging up my ‘editor’ hat, I have the space to channel my energy as a PR & Media Consultant. My mind is a creative, fast-paced place, and I love to bring fresh innovative ideas to my clients.

Over the years, I’ve established a fantastic network of like-minded professionals who I collaborate with to deliver holistic solutions for clients throughout Australia; plus have close networks with media and the business community in North Queensland. I was honoured to be recognised as North Queensland’s 2024 Communications Professional of the Year.

about

Creative Concepts PR

Under the banner of Creative Concepts PR since 2019, I’ve been able to strategise long-term with amazing brands, launch fun events, and execute meaningful campaigns. Through creative storytelling and strategic media coverage, Creative Concepts PR has become synonymous with helping businesses and organisations build brand credibility and establish themselves as leaders in their field.

Here’s some highlights along the way:

  • Awarded ‘2024 Campaign of the Year’ at the NQ Media Ball, for work with PBR Australia (media call pictured).
  • Launched a series of ‘Meet the Press’ events in Townsville, connecting media with the local business and not-for-profit community.
  • Established the ‘Create Your Own PR’ online course, empowering individuals with the tools to confidently manage their own media efforts.
  • Helped coordinate and emcee the inaugural ‘NQ Women’s Leadership Forum’ in November 2024.
  • Supported local charities with publicity services.

If you can see the potential of media coverage in your business or organisation, please reach out. I can manage short-term projects, work with your team as part of your long-term strategy, or upskill you with the basics so you can manage your own publicity with minimal ongoing assistance.

“Since bringing Julie’s services in to our team we’ve been able to share the great community stories that happen every day at Queensland Country Bank with more people, through her ability to find an angle for journalists that works and proactively pitch our stories. Her terrible dad jokes and puns also make her a delight to work with.”
