Julie Johnston publicity

I share your passion and desire to spread your message.

Because I choose to work with clients I genuinely believe in, it’s easy for me to help motivate you to overcome any barriers that are holding you back from sharing your voice. I show you where to look for PR opportunities, how to craft your story, and encourage you to remember your “why” to give you the confidence to shine.

Townsville is blessed with many innovators and inspirational businesses, and while attracting local publicity is great, I understand that for many clients, they also need to reach a wider audience beyond North Queensland.

I work with each client to fully understand your business and objectives and tailor a campaign which includes local, state and national mainstream media, industry publications and podcasts as required.

I’m Julie Johnston and I love working with clients to help them achieve publicity for their event, product or business, or assisting them to build their credibility as a leader in their industry.

I have over 17 years of experience working in marketing, PR, and video production… yep, right back when you’d get a cassette tape or VHS copy of your media interview! I know what it is like juggling a tight marketing budget and getting caught up in the daily grind, so I become an extension of your team to bring the creative thinking and proactive PR pitching that otherwise goes by the wayside.

I have coordinated PR for signature events including Magnetic Island Race Week, Townsville 400 V8 Supercars, and Townsville to Cairns Bike Ride; managed short term campaigns for product and book launches; and enjoyed long-term relationships with clients from a variety of industries to increase their brand awareness and credibility through proactive publicity opportunities.

I love sharing stories about inspiring businesses, entrepreneurs, and innovations, so in May 2020, I relaunched BDmag digitally. My role as Editor means I get to meet so many talented people in Townsville, and give back to the business community by sharing non-advertorial stories. This also gives me an outlet to encourage business owners to think proactively about PR opportunities and sharing their expertise through Guest Article Posting.

I’m an active member of the Townsville Theatre Community as a performer and playwright. Many of my short plays have won awards, and I have had my work performed throughout Australia and overseas. In 2016, my full-length play Displaced was performed in Townsville by Full Throttle Theatre Company, and I coordinated the marketing and publicity.

My mind is a creative, fast-paced place, always buzzing with ideas. I balance this with plenty of time in nature and listening to my body for when it is time to rest, so that I can continue to bring fresh, creative thinking to my clients.
